Awen, Druidry, Flow States and Conciousness Presentation- Dec 6th

On Dec 6th from 3-4:30pm EST, I’m going to be presenting for the Association for the Anthropology of Consciousness on the druid tradition, flow states, the Awen. I’ll be sharing research from a few different studies and talk about flow in relationship to druids and consciousness.

For this, I’ll be wearing both my hats: as a researcher/professor and as a druid. It will be geared toward a more academic audience but will be understandable for everyone.

Here are details about the event:

Friday, December 6, 12:00 – 1:30 pm (Pacific Time)

Exploring the Modern Druid Tradition: Sacred Creativity, Awen, and Nature Connection

Dr. Dana Driscoll, Indiana University of Pennsylvania USA & Grand Archdruid of the Ancient Order of Druids in America

This presentation will offer an exploration of creative practices and the “Awen” in the modern druid tradition, a tradition of nature spirituality inspired by the Ancient Druids and revitalized in the 17th century. Dana will briefly share details about the druid tradition as a whole: rituals, beliefs, the ways in which druids understand consciousness and metaphysics. Then, Dana will offer an exploration into how druids understand the sacred concept of “Awen”, which is defined as flowing inspiration, flow states, and divine creative expression as well as the broader force of divine creation. While this concept has been studied primarily in the field of psychology as a “Flow state”, Dana will share how druids understand the Awen to be many things: an altered state of consciousness, a spark of insight, a spiritual practice, and something that needs to be carefully cultivated. As both an insider and a social scientist, Dana has a unique perspective on the druid tradition. She will share from her own experiences as well from her studies in the druid tradition (including a large study of 266 druids) and more broadly on her ongoing research on flow states (of non-druids).

Will the presentation be recorded? I would love to see it but probably can’t make the live event.

I signed up. I’m hoping my hubby will sit with me and watch so he gets a better idea of what we are all about and hopefully wants to practice with me.

Me too. I’d love to watch it but won’t be able to during work that day.

It looks like its sold out on Eventbrite- are you able to create more sign up spots? If not, then i will definitely want to check it out on YouTube as well.

As mentioned, the sign-ups are full. Definitely have an interest if it is viewable after the event, as I will be in the midst of a work shift. Thanks for sharing the information!

Do you happen to have an update on if this will be recorded? Sadly this is during work, but I would love to watch the replay

Any updates on how to access the talk? I have a ticket and checked the event page but it says the event organizers will email with details. 20 minutes out and I haven’t seen anything.

I have an email that says to go to the event page. It looks like you have to have an Eventbrite account (which was easy to set up, just an email and password). So you log into your account. Once I did that, the event page showed a join button.

Thanks. Showed up. Must have been only available within a certain time.

But now it’s asking for a passcode and they don’t provide one. I don’t have a Zoom account.

Not sure, I’m in to the meeting.
