Hi, I am purchasing land in North Nevada around wells. Kinda homesteading with the end goal of starting an animal sanctuary. I will be in transit soon but was wondering, as I’m not from the area, where is the best place to attain resources for this venture.
What kind of resources are you looking for? Informational, financial, connections to local groups?
Yes to all. I’m currently in Astoria OR. I’m purchasing property in deeth NV with the end goal of starting an animal sanctuary. Any and all resources are appreciated, Information and financial assistance is appreciated but looking forward to a rebirth of my soul. I currently need a vehicle or motorhome. On disability and fighting small coastal town mentality. (Noone has what I need or I can’t afford it). I’m so ready to receive the blessing of my soul.
This is a beautiful dream! I don’t know anything about this area of the US, so I will let others chime in there. We are doing more gardening on our property than caring for animals (aside from our two dogs, we have zero animals). One thing that has helped us in getting to know our property is to look at online forums, especially permies.com. There’s a ton of info on homesteading there and also real people posting on the forums. Another thing that might be helpful is to find the local to you (and in your new place too?) “Buy Nothing” groups. We have been able to find some stuff we needed that way. I know that Craigslist is also a way to find stuff and work / trade opportunities, but you need to be really mindful of personal safety with all of this (i.e. not meeting strangers alone, etc.). One question that occurred to me: are there already animal sanctuaries or rescues in the area that you could develop a relationship with, through volunteering, etc. that might help you understand more what is involved in setting up your own?
