Hello everyone! Our next workshop in our online series will be on AODA’s daily ritual practice: The Sphere of Protection.

In this workshop, Dana will demonstrate a localized Sphere of Protection, break down the component parts of the SOP, and demonstrate various ways you can adapt the SOP to your own symbolism, ecosystem, and needs. The workshop will also touch upon a variety of advanced practices with the SOP (and if there is interest, we can hold a follow-up workshop to explore advanced uses and practices further). All workshop participants will have a chance to interact with others, share their experiences in using the SOP and ask questions about our core practice. Finally, we will also discuss how the SOP can help us during challenging times and how to work with the SOP even when we are feeling stressed or anxious.

About Dana: Dana O’Driscoll currently serves as the Grand Archdruid in the Ancient Order of Druids in America, and has been in leadership within the order since 2013. Dana regularly blogs at the Druid’s Garden (druidgarden.wordpress.com) and is the author/illustrator of the Plant Spirit Oracle and the Tarot of Trees. Her first book, which explores sustainable and earth-centered spiritual practices through the wheel of the year, will be released in 2021 from Shiffer Publishing. Dana lives on a 5 acre homestead in the beautiful Allegheny mountains of Western PA where she practices permaculture, natural building, wild food foraging, and natural arts.

I’ve known the sphere since my early days as a witch. Also, the fire and other spells, since I was 20. I’m 55 now. I do find some things here to be honest and real. I have no interest in teaching. It takes one on one lessons and with the right person. It can’t be taught en masse. You have to have a connection with the student. A personal connection. That is the only way to have a real affect on people. They have to have real trust in you.

One thing I would suggest to anyone who is having trouble with the rotation and forming the sphere itself, Diagram 2 is essentially a map of the concept that really solidified it for me.

I just wanted to say I appreciate your making the handout available. I was really tired when the workshop was held, and so wasn’t able to make it. But I’ve printed this out, and hope to work with some of the suggestions over the coming weeks. I really would like to try the contemplative SOP idea.

Also, I’m proud to report that finally, for the most part, I’ve been able to do the SOP on a daily basis for the past four months. :raised_hands:t5:

Please try the contemplative SOP! I have found this to be a very useful version–especially when you are tired/drained and want to connect directly with the land.
