World Druidry: Seasonal Festivals in a Globalizing Tradition
With Larisa A. White, Druid Adept, AODA
Sunday, January 26, 2025 3-5pm Eastern / 12-2pm Pacific time
Modern Druidry is a nature-reverent spiritual tradition inspired by the landscapes, seasonal cycles, agricultural calendars, and folk-traditions of northwestern Europe. But according to recent census data, there are now more than ten times as many Druids living outside of Europe as in it. How can a nature-based spiritual tradition born in northwestern Europe continue to make sense when transported to vastly different cultures, bioregions & climates? What changes as Druidry spreads to areas in which the customs, folk-traditions, and agricultural calendars are very different from those of Europe? What forms the spiritual common core of modern Druidry’s wheels of the year, which unites Druids across the world, despite variations in local practice?
In this 2-hour workshop, Larisa A. White presents findings from the World Druidry Survey of 2018-2020, demonstrating how Druids across the world have wildcrafted their seasonal celebrations, grounding them in local, physical and cultural landscapes. Participants will follow a series of prompts for nature observations and meditations on the spiritual metaphors evident in the seasonal changes of their local landscapes. They will use the results of these activities to wildcraft ritual elements for a wheel-of-the-year celebration linking seasonal changes in their local environment to the spiritual common core of Druidry.
Note: the revised 2nd Degree Curriculum that we have released on Dec 21st includes World Druidry as a required book.
